Victorian Tumbling Blocks Victorian. Antique show purchase, Seattle area in or prior to 2005. 83"x84½" Fabric:
Wool, satin, a very few silks. Batting: None. Backing: Pink and white cotton flannel sheet blanket. Edge:
Two edges are knife-edged; back is brought 1" to the front and stitched by hand on the two ends. Piecing:
By hand. Quilting: By hand in some vertical lines and some zig-zag lines following the middle of each
patch. Condition: Due to mouse holes, 8 of 690 pieces are restorations. Five silks are shattering, but because
they are stitched to color-coordinated foundations, appearance is not affected. The back has wide areas of
brown stain along a fold line, speckles of rust-colored stain, and a 5" patch in the area of mouse damage.
Because of risk to the top side fabrics, I have not tried to wash out the stains on the back.
