takes that mission to heart. Therefore, it should come
as no surprise that one of its charter members and cur-
rent First Vice President is an honoree at The Chicago
Defender’s 11th Annual Women of Excellence Awards
ceremony. This highly anticipated event recognized 50
world-class women from the Chicago-area who’ve dis-
played the highest level of leadership, and whose com-
mitment to excellence is empowering, and whose
achievements are unparalleled.
A tenured professor and administrative leader at Co-
lumbia College Chicago, Lady Shanita has transitioned
thousands of students from the classroom to the board-

She is “proud and humbled” to accept this distin-
guished award, which to date has been bestowed on
over 500 of Chicago’s brightest and most accomplished
women. The Chicago Defender celebrates the courage, re-
silience, determination, expertise, achievement, and
dedication of these women including; Carol Mosley-
Braun former Senator and Ambassador, and First Lady
Michelle Obama for her contributions in health care
and medicine at the University of Chicago Hospital.
An accomplished writer, Lady Shanita has one book
under her belt, Unleash the Leader Within You and is cur-
rently writing a second one. Lincoln Park Chicago
Chapter will join over 900 CEOs and presidents, corpo-
rate professionals, and students in the Chicagoland area
to celebrate the profound impact being made by wom-
en like their very own Lady Shanita.
