Top Ladies of Distinction Remembers…

Lady Johnnie Kay Pride Brogdon was born July 31, 1936 in New

Middleton, Tennessee. She was the youngest of 9 children born to John and Hallie
Pride. Her parents and 7 siblings preceded her in death.
In March 1947, Lady Johnnie, her siblings, and her parents moved to Detroit to
have a more enriched life. She joined Scott Mission Church where she became a
dedicated Sunday school teacher.
Through a mutual friend, while attending Highland Park Junior College, she met
Lord James W. Brogdon Jr. who became her husband in 1959. To this union was
born two sons, Anthony and Marc.
Lady Brogdon realized that she needed to further her education and attended the University of Detroit majoring
in Accounting and Finance. Following this she attended Central Michigan University majoring in Manufacturing
Engineering. Her employment history spanned from 1956-1993 during which time she worked at Detroit Bank &
Trust (Comerica), Chrysler Corporation and General Dynamics Corporation. She was the first African American
female to work for the Chrysler Corporation as a cost estimating engineer.
Lady Brogdon belonged to many organizations; The Bridge Club, Alpha Pi Chi Sorority, National Coalition of 100
Black Women, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Wives Club, and Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. She served on several
thrusts, committees and was chapter financial secretary with the Detroit Chapter of TLOD. She leaves to cele-
brate her life, her loving husband Lord James, sons, Anthony and Marc (Tracy), three grandchildren, Danielle,
Wesley and Zoie, brother Coolidge Pride, and other relatives and friends.
