Workshop #1: The first workshop was hosted by Lord DeWayne Wilcher on “Preparation for Presentation” skills. He provided
meaningful tips on picking a topic, doing research, discovering the main points, using flash cards and editing. His presentation
engaged the teens as he talked about practicing with family and friends, engaging the audience and using reliable resources. Lord
Wilcher led discussions about organizing your thoughts, orienting yourself based on the logistics of the room, etc. The teens were
very receptive and attentive during the presentation and they enjoyed learning different approaches for to giving presentations.

Spelling Bee: The Spelling Bee was next on our agenda with five of our chapters participating. The contestants included Teen Eliana
Tamrat (Alexandria City), Teen Nahdiri Sullivan (Dale City), Teen Marcus Valez (Hampton Roads), Teen Ashanti Mangrum (Prince
George’s County) and Teen Faith Holt (Southern Maryland). We salute all participating teens and recognize Teen Nahdiri Sullivan
as our 1st place winner, Teen Ashanti Mangrum, as our 2nd place winner, and Teen Faith Holt as our 3rd place winner.

Area II Got Talent: The talent segment was one of the highlights of the conference. Teens and ladies had the opportunity on the
stage, rub the rock, and present their talent. Teens worked together with the ladies to make sure this was an eventful gathering.
What a way to end the evening!

Dupont Environmental Center: The teens and advisors took a short walk to the Dupont Environmental Center. The weather was
perfect and the camaraderie was better but the slight incline up the hill brought frowns to some faces. Once there, our teens
enjoyed walking around the nature path while checking out the habitat. Inside, they experienced stuffed and live animals. Taking
pictures in this area was breath taking as the teens enjoyed the walk downhill much better.
