Each year, TLOD/TTA reaches out to the community through the donation of items or provision of service to a
local organization that serves youth and/or adults. This year Top Teens and Top Ladies collected and filled back-
packs with healthy snacks to donate to the community through Area One’s “Blessings in a Backpack”. These
backpacks were given by Teens and Ladies and filled by Teens for the purpose of providing healthy snacks for
school aged children who may be in need of food once they leave school. Area Teen Officers, with the assistance
of Lady Darrlyn Johnson, Chair and the “Blessing in a Backpack” Committee of Ladies presented in excess of
one thousand four hundred (1,400) backpacks to Washington and Dorrie Miller Elementary Schools. Teens
boxed up and loaded the backpacks for delivery to the schools in San Antonio, Texas.

Area One Top Teens were fortunate to visit the Joint Base San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston. Teens toured the
military history museum and the Quadrangle which housed wildlife and how science related fields were important
to the environment and the government.

Leadership activities at the 47th Area One Conference were highlighted by Area One’s most capable officers.
Workshops for Ladies were designed to provide information to chapters for more efficiency in operation target-
ing chapter bylaws; membership retention, recruitment and reclamation; and public relations. Workshop topics
highlighted for Teens held during MOMENTUM presentations included: Networking with Teens and Mentors,
“What’s in the Bag”, a sharing of effective activities related to TTA Projects, conference expectations and being
safe.
