Teen Evan N. Abraham | South Suburban Chicago Chapter |
Area III Sickle Cell Ambassador
Incredible describes Evan Abraham. She’s not your typical teen. She’s actively
involved in her community, giving her time and service through the South
Suburban Chicago Chapter (SSCC) of Top Teens of America, Inc., where she’s chapter
historian. Other charitable groups are graced with Evan’s time and talent. When
she was asked to represent Area III as the Youth Ambassador for Sickle Cell Disease it
was an easy ‘yes!’
Evan’s goal is to become an engineer. She’s in Honors classes with science as a
favorite and on the Girls Varsity Golf Team and the JV Gymnastics Team at
school.
Evan shares, “the Bible tells us in Luke 12:48, ‘For everyone to whom much is given,
from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they
will ask the more.’ Peter Parker in Spiderman restates it as: “With great power comes great
responsibility.” That’s just how she lives her life.
When asked about sickle cell Evan says, “I take my role as the Area III Sickle Cell Ambassador very seriously
and have been inspired to do so much more with my role. I’m extending beyond Sickle Cell to some other
causes that are close to my heart, but as the Area III Ambassador, I want to encourage our Teens to get
involved.” She has a very close family friend with sickle cell. Being Ambassador is an opportunity for Evan to
get involved and support her friend.
Evan dedicated her sixteenth birthday to raising funds for three charitable organizations with “PUTT for a
Purpose” August 4, 2017 at Glenwoodie Golf Course. The funds raised were disbursed equally between Different
Shades of Pink Charity, the Joseph Assignment, and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Illinois.
Evan’s excitement and participation is ongoing as she was selected for the 2016 ComEd Icebox Derby Stem cup
challenge. Its purpose is to encourage young girls’ involvement in the role that innovations like solar and
technology can play throughout the derby events to further enhance STEM learning opportunities.
Fast forward to 2017 and you saw ‘Scientist Evan,’ as a billboard/banner model in downtown Chicago or on the
web at http://iceboxderby.com for this same project.
All the Ladies, Lords and Teens of the SSCC are beyond proud of Teen Evan Abraham. Her parents, Yvette
and Rahsaan Abraham, and younger sister are the proudest of all.
