Area V

Cincinnati Chapter, chartered on September 30, 1967, celebrated its 50th anniversary in October.

Chapter charter members were: Ladies Earline Hawkins, Ruth Weaver, Corrine Springer, Ruby Malone, Gwen-
dolyn Edwards Walker, Doris Newman, Dorothy Smith and Janet Alexander. The Cincinnati Chapter was the
11th chapter organized in Top Ladies of Distinction, the 1st chapter in Area V, and the 3rd chapter chartered
outside of Texas.
Lady Roxyanne C. Burrus, Area V Director, was a special guest at the luncheon celebration. Lady Gwendolyn
Walker, Lady Mary Alyce Baughman, Lady Emily W. Spicer, and Lady Sadye B. Dean were honored as
“Cincinnati Chapter Jewels in Our Crown.” Other honorees included past Area V Directors from the chapter, the
Ladies Gwendolyn I. Robinson and Sybil S. McDowell and, all past presidents. The chapter’s history was high-
lighted with displays, chapter trophies, awards, and scrapbooks.
In 1993, the chapter inducted 10 Ladies, the Class of 1993, of which 6 remain active. One became an Area V
Director, 3 have served as chapter presidents and one is an award-winning historian. This group of Ladies was
also honored for their soon to be 25 years of service.
Since its inception, Cincinnati Chapter members have integrated TLOD’s five thrusts – Service to Youth, Ser-
vice to Seniors, the Status of Women, Community Beautification and Community Partnerships and the projects
– UNCF, NAACP, NCNW, TLOD Literacy, and SCDA, in programs and activities throughout the city. Many
community members have benefitted from them.
