HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PUBLIC LUNCHEON
On February 23, 2019, Area VI honored “A Place Called Home” at the public luncheon during the Area VI Lead-
ership Conference. Under the leadership of Lady Brenda Dodd, National Area VI Director, the luncheon’s focus
was on Top of America. Area VI Top Teens hosted the guests at each table and participated in the program.
“A Place Called Home” provides a safe, nurtur-
ing environment with proven programs in arts,
education and wellness for the young people in
South Central Los Angeles to help them im-
prove their economic conditions and develop
healthy, fulfilling and purposeful lives.
Dr. Yvonne Styles, Chief of Staff as well as some
of her youth members were presented with nov-
els for their library. Each TLOD Chapter in Ar-
ea VI was assigned a grade-level and provided with a list of appropriate reading at that level. Lady Karlisa Carter
and Lady Yolande Bankston, both from Ladera Heights Chapter, led this effort.
Area VI Top Teens stuffed backpacks and provided non-perisable food items, fulfilling their “Blessings In A
Backpack” program requirements. The backpacks were given to “A Place Called Home” to assist with their daily
food distribution program for their members and the broader South Central Los Angeles community. Area VI
TTA President, Teen Miles Hemphil presented the backpacks to Dr.Styles.
During the luncheon, the Area VI Top Teens sang John Legend & Common’s Oscar Winning song, “Glory.”
They did an awesome job. Area VI is proud of its Top Teens.
