Remembers…
During her tenure at the VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), she mentored many. She
was instrumental in establishing the Greater Dallas Chapter #1 of Association of Surgical Technologist
(AST). She received numerous awards. She also wrote an article in the July 2014 Edition of The Surgi-
cal Technologist journal, entitled, “Journey of 45 Years…..Because of Clean Shoes. Her favorite past
time was sewing and making surgical caps for Operating Room staff/doctors. Mrs. Starks retired from
VANTHCS in 2017 with 48 years of service. She was involved with several ministries and her commu-
nity/civic groups affiliations such as National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Top Ladies of Dis-
tinction (TLOD). She was a proud member of the Alta Mesa Park Baptist Church, Pastor Rev. Dr. H.
L. Hollmon. At the time of her passing she was president of the General Missionary Union.
Lady Storks was proceeded in death by her two brothers: Oscar Stoker and John Stoker and her son
Derrick L. Geter. Mrs. Starks leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Darryl L. Geter (Helen); Christo-
pher Geter, and daughter Deatra L. Geter-Childress; two step children Shelia Garrett (Clarence) and Da-
vid Hughes; Sister Johnnie Stoker Daniels (Richard) and brother, Welton Stoker (Betty); three grand-
children Darryl Geter, Jr. (Michelle), Sommer Henry (Adrian), Atalyah Young; two step-grandchildren,
Crystal and Stephen Garrett and fondly remembered as “GG” to nine great-grandchildren, a host of
nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and coworkers.
Lady Maudestine Stanford passed away on January 3, 2019. She was
a charter member of the Ladera Heights Chapter, Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc.
inducted on October 28, 1995.
Lord Melvin Travis passed away on December 11, 2018. He was born on September 30, 1953
to the union of the late Reverend Freddie Earl Travis and Robbie Mae Travis as their third child. Lord
Melvin was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
He graduated from Manassas High School and received a B. S. in Accounting from Case Western Re-
serve University. He was active in the ROTC program at Manassas. Lord Melvin received his C.P.A.
certification in 1987. He was the owner of Travis & Company, PLLC. Lord Melvin leaves to cherish,
his wife, Lady Barbara Beasley Travis; two daughters, Melissa Travis and Megan (Ronald) Brown; one
grandson Malachi Brown; his mother Robbie Mae Travis; one brother, Larry Travis; two sisters, Vickie
(Clem) Williams and Gwendolyn Langford and a host of other relatives and friends.
