Former Teen in The News
Wisconsin Lt. Governor –Elect Mandela Barnes
Mandela Barnes, age 31, made history in the state of Wisconsin, in the
November 6, 2018 election. He was elected Lt. Governor for the State
of Wisconsin.
He is the first Black person to be elected to this office. He was the
strong running mate
of Governor – Elect Tony Evers, State Supt. of Public Instruction.
Mandela Barnes had served in the State Assembly, after being a
Community Organizer and
working on the staff of the Mayor of Milwaukee. He is well known in
Milwaukee and now, throughout the state. He and Tony Evers
campaigned hard and garnered support statewide.
He attended Milwaukee Public Schools and graduated from Madison High
School at age 16.
While in high school he was a committed and active member of Top Teens of America, Milwaukee
Chapter, where he served as an effective President, when he was a sophomore and junior. He attended conferences and
was very popular among other Top Teens in Milwaukee and Area III.
Mandela is a 2008 graduate of Alabama A & M University. He is an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,
Incorporated. He was destined for greatest when his parents, Jessie and LeJuan Barnes, named him after Nelson
Mandela.
He and his father were honored in TLOD’s Outstanding Fathers and Mentors Breakfast, where he was the guest
speaker. They were recognized in different years.
