Miss Makiya Palmer and Mr. SaQuan Steed Crowned

Makiya Palmer (Miss 2017 Guilford County Top Teen), Miss Madison Teens at 6:00 pm, January 21, 2017 at the
Makenzie Dark (3rd place winner), and Daniel Uzokwe (2nd place High Point Country Club for the Mr. and
winner Mr. Top Teen). Miss 2017 Guilford County Top Teens of
America Pageant. The theme for this event
was “An Enchanting Evening.” The mistress
of ceremony was Miss Laila Williams, 2016
Guilford County Miss Top Teen of America.
She is the daughter of Ms. Leslie Cue and
Mr. Algernon Williams. The guest speaker
was Dr. Alton Thompson, Executive
Director for the Association of Research
Directors at the nineteen 1890 Land Grant
Universities. The pageant was designed to
raise scholarship funds for the participants
and to attend leadership conferences

nationwide. In the course of months, the Guilford County Top Teens participated in a number
of workshops and community service projects.

Miss Makiya Palmer was crowned 2017 Guilford County Top Teen of America. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ahmad and Melanie Palmer. She attends Southern Guilford High
School Academy for Medical Careers and is enrolled in honor classes.
Miss Precious Brown was crowned the 2nd place winner. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Wilson and Bernice Mirti. She attends the Academy of Lincoln in Greensboro, NC. Miss

Madison Makenzie Dark was crowned the 3rd place winner. She is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Kenny and Melanie Dark. She attends Providence Grove High School in Climax, NC. Mr.
SaQuan Steed was crowned Mr. 2017 Guilford County Top Teen. He is the son of Ms. LaKeisha
Steed. He is a senior at The Academy at Central, High Point, NC. Mr. Daniel Uzokwe was
crowned the 2nd place winner. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex and Ijeoma Uzokwe. He is a
senior at Southeast Guilford High School, Greensboro, NC.

The pageant committee members are Ms. Tonya Alexander, Mrs. Katetia Bennett, Mrs.
Rebecca Graves, Mrs. Vickie Hughes, Mrs. Gloria Jackson, Ms. Jacqueline King, Ms. Deidra
Lewis, Ms. Sharon S. Mitchell, Mrs. Melanie Palmer, Mrs. Jacqueline Pettiford, Ms. Sherri L.
Ray, Dr. Cynthia C. Thompson (chairperson and president), Mrs. Ijeoma Uzokwe, Ms.
Jacqueline White, and Ms. Thelodora Williams.

Guilford County Top Teens of America On Tuesday, March 21, 2017, Guilford County Top
Receive Resolution Teens of America received a Resolution for their
outstanding community service from Greensboro City
Council. The Top Teens are 36 strong in Guilford
County, serving the community with pride and
distinction. There to receive the Resolution were
three Top Teens (V. Delano Savage, Precious Brown,
and Makenzie Dark) and six Executive Board
members of Top Ladies of Distinction (Mrs. Rebecca
Graves, 2nd Vice President; Mrs. Vickie Hughes,
Advisor; Mrs. Gloria Jackson, Treasurer; Ms.
Jacqueline King, Assistant Advisor; Ms. Sharon
Mitchell, 1st Vice President; and Dr. Cynthia Carlton
Thompson, President).
