Michigan Metro Chapter Enjoys A Successful Year

The TLOD-Michigan Metro Chapter, which is located in Inkster, Michigan and under the leadership of
President, Lady Betty Thomas is reflecting on a whirlwind year full of activities. One of the main events of
the year was the “Dance the Night Away”, prom. It was time for corsages and boutonnieres and prom
dresses. This was not a regular prom, but a Senior Citizen Prom. On April 21, the Top Ladies of the
Michigan Metro Chapter held a Senior Prom at the Dozier Recreation Center. The night was filled with
entertainment. There were toasts, speeches and all the while, the D J played oldies and goodies for guests to
dance and hustle to. It was an excellent opportunity for guests to socialize, have fun and reminisce about the
past. From dinner to dancing, and festive attire to fanciful decorations, the senior prom bears a close
resemblance to the prom held at local high schools. The well-attended event featured a delicious buffet
dinner and prizes. A good time was enjoyed by all that attended.
In November and December 2016, the Michigan Metro Top Teens selected a needy family from the Inkster
community to provide Thanksgiving dinner with all of the trimmings. The same family was blessed again by
the Top Teens during the Christmas holiday as the teens purchased an abundance of gifts for the single
mother of 6 children. The family was elated and the mother had tears of joy and gratefulness.
Michigan Metro made a little history of its own with their most famous Top Teen, Mayor Byron Nolen. On
Thursday, February 2, 2017, the city of Inkster’s 1st official full time mayor Byron Nolen, gave his first city
address and Michigan Metro Chapter was there not only as citizens of Inkster, but to support the chapter’s
very first Top Teen President and the very first “Top Top Teen of the Year” - 1986. Michigan Metro is
proud of Mayor Nolen and all of his accomplishments. They salute him and the Michigan Metro Top Teens,
as they continue to work hard in helping others and giving back to the community.
The Michigan Metro Chapter has several activities planned for the end of the program year. They will
celebrate and honor small business women owners during their annual “Status of Women” luncheon, which
will be held on May 20, at the beautiful Hellenic and Cultural Center. In preparation for this event, the ladies
volunteered at a nonprofit organization, First Step Shelter for Abused Women and provided much needed
toilettes and personal care items for the residents. To close an amazing year out, the ladies are excited about
their upcoming Induction Ceremony. On June 17, Michigan Metro will induct 6 new Ladies and 3 Teens.
The Ladies will also recognize all of the wonderful Founders of TLOD during the Induction Ceremony.
What a marvelous way to end a successful year!
