Cleveland City Club welcomes Lady Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson as featured speaker

Lady Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, L.H.D., International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated was the featured speaker at the Cleveland City Club forum on January 13, 2017. Her hour long
talk was part of the Centennial Celebration kickoff for Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated. Dr. Buckhanan Wilson lauded the Cleveland City Club as one of the oldest forums for free
speech in the United States.
Highlights of Dr. Buckhanan Wilson’s talk included the need to support the mission of Historically Black
Colleges and Universities, the importance of supporting mental and physical health through partnerships with
NAMI and the American Heart Association, and efforts to ensure middle school youth have the supplies
necessary to excel in school through the Sorority’s “One Million Backpacks” initiative.
Dr. Buckhanan Wilson also participated in a Q&A forum with Margot James Copeland of the KeyBank
Foundation, where they discussed the importance of commitments to organizations, the legacy of Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr., and the commitment to service. “This is not just service for service sake, it’s service that
makes a difference in communities.”, stated Dr. Buckhanan Wilson.
Several members of the Greater Cleveland Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated attended the
forum, as well as an evening Welcome Reception and presented Dr. Buckhanan Wilson with a “Taste of
Cleveland” gift basket to commemorate her visit. The Greater Cleveland Chapter continues its collaboration
with the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Alpha Omega Chapter through our community partnership
initiative.
