Teen Kira Willis, Dallas Chapter. The Spelling Bee Runner-Up was Teen Andreas Palmer, New
Orleans Chapter.

The Dorothy Allen Chimney Black History Bowl took on a new twist, orchestrated by the 12th
National Area One Director, Lady Loris Anderson, as she included all Teens in the Black
History Bowl through the use of cell telephones at the 45th Area One Conference.

Conference attendees were treated to amazing talent at the Literary Café. Teen Cameron
Edwards, Missouri City, electrified the audience through his modern dance, while Teen Hanna
Selders, Dallas Chapter, captured the attention of the all through her virtuosity as an
accomplished violinist and Teen Lydia Cairo, Capital City, left the audience breathless in her
talent presentation.

Top Teens collected 2,300 backpacks in the Blessings in a Backpack service project in two
years, with the plan to increase the number in the next two years. These backpacks were given to
community centers in Fort Worth, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Workshops topics presented enhanced the learning of Ladies and Teens. In addition to the
presentations made by Area One Officers, Lady Regina Dickson, Area One Recording Secretary,
Lady Sharon Penson, Area One Financial Secretary and Lady Andra Self, Area One Treasurer,
the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (N.O.B.L.E.), conducted an
interactive panel discussion hosted by Lady Jacqueline Carter, Area One Administrative
Assistant about how Teens should react when approached by law enforcement officers. Local
representatives from AARP, the March of Dimes and information from St. Jude’s was presented
by National TTA Director, Lady Janice Scimmons and Area One TTA Advisor, Lady Mary
Thomas, with Lady Barbara Wooten, Area One Administrative Assistant, assisting the Area One
Director in making provisions for the implementation of the workshops.
The closing activities included the Area Director’s Gala at which the Area One Top Lady of the
Year was announced, Mr. and Miss Top Teen were presented and the Lords received awards for
their hard work and support of the Ladies and Teens. The final event was the Praise, Pray and
Depart Breakfast at which a local youth pastor spoke with the attendees.

Area One is on the move because each Lady, Lord and Teen contributed to the service rendered,
keeping in mind that It Takes Everyone to Make Area One #1!
