AREA ONE
National Area One Director, Lady Harnell Williams,
presided over the 46th Area One Leadership Conference
March 2, 2017 through March 5, 2017, at the Baton
Rouge Hilton Capitol Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
hosted by the Southeast Cluster Chapters which included
Beaumont, Jasper County, Lake Charles, New Orleans,
Oran’Je and Port Arthur, along with the Area One
Executive Board.

the second plenary session. Ladies of Distinction and Top Teens of America:
Engaging in the Enhancement of Programs that Invest in
the Community through Volunteer Service was showcased as an extension of the 45th Area One
Leadership Conference that was held in Fort Worth, Texas, hosted by the West Cluster Chapters
which included Capital City, Central Oklahoma, Dallas, El Paso, Metroplex Oklahoma, River
City, San Antonio Metroplex and Trinity West, along with the Area One Executive Board.
Lady Annie Mouton, Area One Induction Chair, Lady Rhonda Harris, Area Membership Chair
and Lady Orethann Price, Area One Induction Committee Member, helped orchestrate the
induction of fifteen new Ladies at the Area One Leadership Conferences. This induction
inspired Ladies in attendance to be reminded that TLOD will continue to increase the number of
service hours as a result of the new additions to the TLOD Family.
Area One mourned the loss of Founder Lady LaVerne Madlock, Second National President,
Rose City Chapter, Past National Area One Director Lady Orvis Austin, Capital City Chapter
and Lady Rita Franks-Bell, Composer of the TLOD Prayer, Houston Chapter and twenty-six
Ladies and Lords. Each of the Late TLOD Family Members were memorialized by Area One
Chaplain, Lady Valencia Edner, accompanied by Lady Patricia Bratcher.
The joint plenary sessions featured the introduction of the Area One TLOD and TTA Officers,
National President, National Officers, Past National Presidents and Past National Area One
Directors. Each plenary session showcased speakers from AARP, recognized outstanding
community servants as Humanitarians, Ms. Diane Ragsdale, Inner City Development
Corporation and Past Mayor Pro Tem of Dallas, Texas and Ms. Erika Green, former Top Teen of
the Nonpareil Chapter and Attorney at Law.
Area One Teens were fortunate to spend time at Southern University where they were welcomed
by the Chancellor and numerous high level dignitaries. Campus financial aid personnel
explained the process for entering Southern University and other colleges. Area One Teens
engaged in discussion with student guides, were treated to lunch in the cafeteria and were
afforded a tour of the campus and its museum.
One of the new additions at the conference for Top Teens was the inaugural Spelling Bee, under
the direction of Area One TTA Advisor, Lady Mary Thomas. The Spelling Bee Winner was
