Transformational Learning through Creativity
Our whole school has benefitted from participation in The Song Room’s program. It has achieved what no other arts, particularly music, initiatives have been able to do - despite being interrupted by COVID and recent floods. With its multi-year commitment and skill-building for all teachers, it has achieved arts, wellbeing, literacy and numeracy outcomes for students and ongoing sustainability.”

The Song Room’s national, 3-year pilot program, Transformational Learning through Creativity
(TLC) tested and confirmed the efficacy of a collective, long-term approach to arts education.
All 17 regional schools that commenced TLC in 2020 committed and continued with the program for the full duration, despite COVID disruptions. The guiding principal for the multi- year, multi artform pilot-program was ‘arts learning supports students and their communities to thrive,’ helping to transform school culture and reduce educational inequity.
78% of participants who fed back on the program agreed that their school now shares and celebrates arts learning, achieving a program goal to embed quality sustainable arts education in regional schools that may otherwise miss out on specialist arts educators.
Research conducted by Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) endorsed the programs’ design, efficacy, impact, and demand. Ongoing demand for TLC from neighbouring schools indicates the impact of the program on communities. Funding is being sort to expand TLCs footprint to new schools in 2023.
