Kaleidoscope is a new social and emotional learning initiative designed by The Song Room in late 2021 to improve student wellbeing in direct response to the effects of COVID 19. Trauma-informed creative pedagogies were incorporated to impact students experiencing vulnerability, isolation, and behavioural management challenges.
The 10-week program was delivered to 100 primary schools as part of the Victorian Government’s Positive Start in 2022 initiative. 46% of schools were from regional and rural areas.
81% of teachers reported that students improved their overall self-esteem and confidence after participating in the program.
Over 100 Song Room Teaching Artists trained in trauma-informed pedagogies, equipping them with advanced expertise to support at-risk and vulnerable children through arts learning.
The program is now available nationally and is included on the Victorian Government’s Schools Mental Health Menu.
