An eWaste Crisis

eWaste is the world’s fastest increasing solid waste source (WHO, 2021). As new and improved technology is introduced and
consumed, older electronics are presenting a problem. As of 2021, the World Health Organisation estimated that only 17,4% of eWaste
is responsibly recycled globally. In 2019, the eWaste generated globally was about 53.6 million tons (Mt). It is predicted that by 2030,
this figure will rise to 74Mt. This could bring global eWaste figures to about 8,6 kg per capita.

Currently, the average global eWaste per capita sits at 7.3 kg. For South Africa, our eWaste per capita stands at 7.1 kg. This is much
higher than the median in Sub-Saharan Africa, which stands at 2.5 kg. Between 2010 and 2020, the average eWaste per capita in
developing countries has more than doubled on an aggregate of 0.3 kg per capita year on year.

The irresponsible disposal of electronics poses environmental, social and data security problems. Governments today are faced with
the challenge of providing greater ‘cradle to grave’ accountability and there is, therefore, growing need for a variety of solutions to
           the eWaste challenge.

Xperien is at the forefront of leadership and advocacy, championing ‘Circular Computing’ as a major solution to the eWaste crisis. We
recover and refurbish used IT assets to give them a longer life. In this way, Xperien has positioned itself as an environmental patron
through ensuring that electronics are used for as long as possible and that electronics that can no longer be used are responsibly
processed so they do not pose a negative environmental risk.
We are signatory to the ISO 14001 standard, the R2 standard as well as through our membership with the UN Global Compact. These
accountability instruments ensure that we actively facilitate the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals which include the
SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

           eWaste Management

Xperien is committed to the responsible management of eWaste. We recycled 3,81 tons of eWaste during each month of the
reporting period. Desktops, printers, servers, server racks, mixed eWaste, LCD displays, cables, docking stations, projectors and other
miscellaneous eWaste are just some of the items that we shipped to downstream recyclers.
