MCCAIN TAKES SLOW FOOD TO THE FREEZER
McCain Foods is venturing into a previously premium niche with the launch of freezer meals featuring slow-cooked meats and root vegetables.
Called Slow Cooked Meals, the range is positioned as ready meals which offer convenience as well as a home-cooked feel.
Varieties include seven-hour slow-cooked lamb in a rosemary gravy served with mash, green beans and baby carrots; eight-hour slow cooked beef in a red wine jus, served with mash, peas and carrots; and the 10-hour slow cooked pork in an apple sauce, served with root vegetables and beans.
McCain Foods meals and pizza marketing manager Chris Martin says the new meals were developed in response to demand for “a hearty and tender ready-to-eat meal”.
“There’s nothing quite as satisfying on a cold winter’s night than digging into an eight-hour slow-cooked beef or a 10-hour pulled pork with all the trimmings,” he says.
SALVAGED FROM THE WRECK
Lion will launch a limited edition collector’s edition James Squire beer bottle in time for Father’s Day.
Crafted with yeast from a 220-year old bottle of beer recovered from waters off Tasmania on Australia’s merchant wreck Sydney Cove, the dark and malty variety is considered one of the world’s oldest.
‘The Wreck – Preservation Ale’ has already attracted interest, with kegs selling out in venues across Australia.
The ale will come in a premium 750ml glass bottle, with a gold-embossed label and wax-dipped seal, packaged in a hard black casing. Close to 2200 bottles will be allocated to Dan Murphy’s stores nationwide from 20 August, with each

NEW BRANDING FOR CHRIS’ DIPS
Chris’ Foods has re-released its range of Heritage dips and desserts with revised packaging.
The outer packaging sleeve has been enhanced to a simplified, clean design with stronger blue tones, and new photography shows the fresh ingredients used as well as the product.
The range will retain Chris’ European-style terracotta pots.
Head of brand marketing Megan Bata says the new look is the result of a research campaign which included social media community engagement and consumer surveys.
Chris’ has also released a new dip flavour: Chris’ Heritage Edam Cheese, Fig & Fennel Dip, which includes roasted almonds to garnish. The Heritage dip range also includes varieties of Blue Cheese, Fig &
Pistachio, Goat Cheese & Black Truffle, and Vintage Cheddar & Caramelised Onion.
RRP is $7.99 per unit for the dips.
WHITE-HOT BLUE LATTE
Café chain Jamaica Blue has rolled out a limited-edition Jaffa-flavoured white hot chocolate called Blue Latte.
Served in-store on a matching misty blue saucer, the caffeine-free drink is a twist on a hot chocolate, and features white chocolate decadence powder and blue curacao syrup.
Largely known for being a liqueur, curacao is made from the dried peel of a Laraha citrus fruit from the island of Curacao. The citrus notes in the curacao are combined with white chocolate powder and full cream milk for the product, which can also be served with skim, almond and soy milks.
To celebrate the launch of the Blue Latte, Jamaica Blue ran a campaign asking consumers to share the ways they have turned their blue latte into an accessory using the hashtag #IDoBlue.
