Aroha was so happy to see us. Right away she
conveyed the Professor’s apologies explaining that he
had received an emergency call and had to leave.
She let me know that she had assured him I would
be in good hands and not to worry.

I tried to keep it together for Aroha’s sake because
she was so excited; but I felt like the world was crushing
in on me and I was trapped.

I sat silently in the back seat for pretty much the
entire journey to the marae and though I tried to be
pleasant the tension in the air was quite obvious.
