For the time being, I had managed to keep my
thoughts at bay; but I was always astutely aware of
Miss Grace’s continual stares in my direction.
After our duties were completed in the kitchen,
Aroha took me aside and confided that she had spoken
with Nana Grace.
Aroha hugged me as I burst into tears. “E tangi, e
tangi,” Aroha’s firm but soothing voice reached my
heart and suddenly it was as if a dam had burst inside
me. I later learned she was calling me to release the
tears, to cry - e tangi.
As I gained control again, I tried to explain my tears;
“Miss Grace, she knew my name, Kura. The cemetery
my dad, he’s buried there...my Mom, the other funeral I
saw in a vision when she was buried, it was the same
cemetery…. and Miss Grace, she called me grand-
daughter…. How can this be? How could I see all that,
why do these visions keep coming at me...?” I wailed.
Aroha led me to a clearing where I lay down,
exhausted from crying. My tears were still brimming as
Aroha spoke, “You are more special than you know.
Nana Rose is able to see beyond what is considered
visible. She grew up in a time and in this location when
her abilities were considered a natural part of life. There
are many here who still have this ability.
