Pita spoke about our special day together, his
portfolio of pictures from the cape and the story of the
spirit’s journey to the Cape after death. Nana Grace
acknowledged, “Yes, she will find her truth there.”
As heads turned toward her trying to understand
the meaning of those words, Nana Grace explained,
"Cape Reina is a sacred place for her father’s whanau.
It is a place where our Tipuna (ancestors) will
communicate with Kura. She has been resisting my
attempts to tell her about her father and our people, so
they are calling her to them."
Suddenly, she became quiet, her face tense, as if
listening to a phone call with critical news. She jumped
up saying, "We must get to her right away!"
Aroha also jumped up following Nana Grace
asking, "What is it Nana, what are you sensing?"
"Kura is very frightened and confused by all that
has been happening to her. She feels guilty for her out
of control anger, which she feels might have contributed
to her mother’s death. That, and her recent discovery of
her father who died before she was born, has all been
too much for her to bear. She is seeking understanding
of why her mother ran away from here and what part I
played."
