As I said, his words kind of jolted me back to reality
and I slowly began to calm down. When I explained
what happened, it took him aback at first.

In his usual laconic voice and stoic manner he
wandered off with a very perplexed look on his face.

The next day the Professor and the construction
foreman surveyed the mud hole before filling it back in.
He tried to convince me to go back to the stream with
him, but I wasn’t interested in reliving that terrifying

experience.
The Professor just figured there was some logical
explanation and he was going to find it. I guess the
foreman assured him that he and his assistant found no
trace of a tunnel; and after his own inspection, the
Professor could see no evidence of a way out, either.

The Foreman’s conclusion was that I was pulling the
Professor’s leg and that no one could have gotten out of
that hole without help.

In the midst of this wild rollercoaster ride of
emotionally challenging events, my own somewhat ire
feelings about Aroha’s Nana Grace returned.
