SALUTE TO PHYSICIANS
UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI HEALTH SYSTEM
Govindarajan Narayanan, MD
Govindarajan Narayanan, M.D., is a pioneer in the
field of interventional radiology, a specialty that cuts
across different disciplines with the ability to treat nearly
every organ in the body with minimally invasive, target-
ed treatments. Narayanan, a professor of interventional
radiology, built the Division of Interventional Radiology
at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine,
and was named the first chairman of the historic new
Department of Interventional Radiology. Narayanan has
led many of the specialized clinical applications in inter-
ventional radiology that are now offered to patients at
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and in other
disciplines at the University of Miami Health System. Using catheters or transcuta-
neous needles to directly expose cancerous tissue to chemotherapy or energy-based
treatments such as radiation, Narayanan and his colleagues are treating tumors that
were once thought to be inoperable, and so extending patients’ lives in meaningful
ways.
