Cell is the structural and the functional unit of life. They were discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665 in cork slices. Cells
are of different shapes and sizes. Cells possess a cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm and a nucleus. Cytoplasm, in turn,
            comprises of various cell organelles.

             Discussion

Jack : Cell, the structural and Suzi : Cell….. is very-very-very
functional unit of life…. small….. it cannot be seen
Why can't I see it in my by naked eye.
                                       hand.
Jack : Then… how would I see Suzi : Haven't you studied about
                                       my cell? R o b e r t H o o k e c e l l

Jack : Ok ! Ok ! I am going to the
class to study… are you Suzi.... : Yes ! Take me along please !
                                       coming?

            CELL

Cell is the structure and functional unit of life.
They are also called as “building blocks of life.”
All living organisms are made up of cells.
Organisms are classified as multicellular and
unicellular on the basis of number of cells they
            contain. Multicellular organisms contain a

large number of cells. They include plants and
                                                       13
animals. Human beings contain 10 cells.
            Unicellular organisms, for example bacteria,
consist of a single cell only.
