Discovery of Cell (a) Shape : Cell can be oval, round, elongated,
cylindrical or of several different shapes.
Robert Hooke discovered the Cell shape is influenced by its cytoplasmic
cell in 1665 in cork slices. He viscosity, cell wall rigidity and its function.

Activity 1
Observe the basic components of cell by using a thick onion leaf taken from inside. Using forceps pull away the
thin linning from the inner surface of the leaf. Cleanly cut a small piece of it and put it on a glass slide. Pour a drop
of water on glass slide and add methylene blue solution and place a coverslip on it ensuring that no bubbles are
trapped. Now observe the slide under a microscope. Sketch what you see and label the parts as well.
