2. Kinds of Sentences
A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense.
Sentences can be divided into different types on the basis of their meaning.

1. Assertive or Declarative Sentences : Sentences that state or declare something are
called assertive or declarative sentences. These are two types :
(a) Affirmative (b) Negative
(a) Affirmative Sentences : These sentences simply say or state something.
Examples : (i) Mona is a good girl.
(ii) He is reading a book.
(b) Negative Sentences : These sentences express a negative meaning.
Examples : (i) He is not reading the book.
(ii) They had not done their work.
A declarative sentence is always followed by a full stop ( ).

2. Interrogative Sentences: Sentences that are used to ask questions are called
interrogative sentences.
Examples : (i) Does Jack read the book?
(ii) Why did they go to Agra?
(iii) When will you go to school?
?
We always put a question mark ( ) at the end of an Interrogative sentence.
