4. The Noun






          A noun is the name of any person, animal, place, thing, material and even emotions or
          ideas.

          Examples :  Riya, Sohan, Tiger,  Delhi, Chair, iron, etc.

                                                          Abstract

          1.  Proper Noun : A proper noun names specific things. It is the name of a particular
                person, a place, a thing or an event. It always begins with a capital letter.

                Examples :     Jaipur, Saniya, Taj Mahal, etc.

          2.  Common Noun : A common noun is a name given in common to every person or thing
                of the same class or kind.


                Examples :     chair, pen, table, boy, etc.
          3.  Collective Noun :  A collective noun is the name of a number of persons or things

                taken together and spoken of as a whole.

                Examples :     (i)     An army   of soldiers.

                                (ii)   A fleet  of ships.

                The following are examples of collective nouns :

                (a)  A bundle of sticks.                      (b)  A bunch of keys.

                (c)  A suite of rooms.                        (d)  A troupe of dancer.

                (e)  Family of trees.                         (f)  Committee of experts.
