We are told that trees cause rainfall. How? The tree-leaves breathe out a
lot of water vapour into the atmosphere. This helps to make the air cool.
That is why, on a hot day, it is cooler under trees than inside a building. The
cool air over forests cools the rain clouds and helps to cause rain.
This explains why rainfall over forest areas is greater than in other places.
Trees hold the soil together. They save it from being
washed away by showers. Our earth has a covering
of fine soil on the surface. Under the soil lie
rocks. This soil cover grows grass and
plants. Their roots hold the soil together.
Trees supply so many things useful to
us. They give us grains, fruits, vegetables
and valuable medicines. The branches
of trees give shelter to millions of birds.
Forests give shelter to countless wild
animals. The green leaves and grass
refresh the eyes and also the
mind.
shelter – something that covers or gives protection, countless – which is uncountable, refresh – to
restore strength.
