The Friendly Postman
Mohan was a busy postman. He worked in a small
town. Everyday, he put letters into a hundred letter
boxes. He loved to talk to the people he met on his
rounds.
‘How is the pain in your leg?’ he asked old
Mr. Ali.
‘Is your cold better?’ he asked young Mrs. Sharma.
The people of his area loved and liked him. Mrs. John had lemonade
ready for him. Mr. Verma had the chess pieces laid out for a game.
Then one day, Mohan went for a holiday . He
packed his bag and set off. ‘I won't even look
at a stamp till I get back,’ he thought.
Mohan enjoyed the first few days of
the holiday. But after sometime, he
began to miss the happy faces
of his friends. When he
passed letter boxes,
he felt worse.
One day,
Mohan passed by
a post office like
busy – having very little free time, rounds – regular visits to a number of houses to deliver
something, lemonade – a beverage of sweetened lemon juice mixed with water, holiday – a time of
rest from work. English-3
