Some mountains are always covered with snow. When the heat of the Sun
melts this snow, water starts flowing down to the plains in the form of rivers,
streams and lakes. We use this water for all purposes.

Some rain water also seeps into the ground. It is called ground water .
We can use this water by digging wells and install handpumps. In our
houses, we get water from taps.

Drinking Water
Wells and handpumps are common in villages. People draw out drinking
water from these. In towns and cities, water is cleaned and stored in huge tank
then it reaches to our houses through taps.
Clean and pure water that is fit for drinking is called potable water . It is
tasteless, colourless and odourless.
Water from rivers, lakes, ponds and wells may not always be clean. Dirty
water contains germs. Drinking dirty water can make us ill. We should boil
and filter water before drinking. Boiling water kills the germs. We should keep
clean water in closed containers.

of water during his/her life time.
