Rocks

              Rocks are found in many colours like white, black, red, grey, green, etc.
            Some rocks are soft and some rocks are very hard.


            Hard Rocks

              Hard rocks are mostly used in the construction of buildings.

                                                                           Granite :  It is a very hard rock.

                                                                       It does not break easily. It is used
                                                                       to make floors and kitchen slabs.

                                                                       It  is  usually  reddish  brown,  dark
                                                                       grey or green in colour.

              Marble  :  It  is  a  hard

            rock. It is used for making floors,
            statues  and  buildings.  Marble  is

            usually white, grey or black. The
            Taj  Mahal  is  built  of  white

              Sandstones : It is also a hard rock. It is formed
            from sand particles. It may be yellow, brown, grey

            or  white.  It  is  softer  than  granite.  It  is  used  to
            build temples and forts.


              The  Red  Fort  in  Delhi  is  made  of  red
            sandstones.

            Soft Rocks
              Some rocks like coal, chalk and slate are soft.


              Coal  :  It  is  a  soft  black  rock.  It  is  used  as  fuel  for
            cooking and for running engines.                                                              Coal
