Read the given fascinating facts :
1. The term malaria originates from two medieval Italian words ‘‘mal’’
and ‘‘aria’’, which means ‘‘bad air." This derives from the old days
when it was thought that all diseases are caused by bad or foul air.
Malaria was the most important health hazard encountered by U.S.
troops in the South Pacific during World War II, where 500,000
men were infected.
2. Vitamin ‘A’ is known to prevent “night blindness” and carrots are
loaded with vitamin A. One carrot provides more than 200% of the
recommended daily intake of vitamin A. Carrots have zero fat
content.
3. An ounce of chocolate contains about 20 mg of caffeine.
4. We actually do not see with our eyes. We see with our brains. The
eyes are basically the cameras of our brain. One quarter of the
brain is used to control the eyes.
5. Tea is said to have been discovered in 2732 B.C. by the Chinese
Emperor Shen Nung, when some tea leaves accidentally fall into his
pot of boiling water.
6. We have four basic tastes. The salt and sweet taste buds are at the
tip of the tongue, bitter at the base and sour along the sides. Not
all our taste buds are on our tongue, about 10% are on the soft
palate, upper esophagus and the cheek.
7. Alexander Graham Bell never called his wife and mother after
inventing the telephone because they were both deaf.
