Values,	Ethics,	and	Charity

Businesses get it: charity is good for business. According to the Council on
Foundations,	more	than	two	thousand	corporate	foundations	contribute	in	excess
of $12 billion a year to nonprofit organizations in cash, goods, and services.
Business philanthropy generates invaluable publicity, illuminating corporate
fulfillment	of	community	responsibility.	Workers,	too,	have	taken	a	hard	look	at
their own values and ethics, and are trying to determine how they fit into the
workplace. “Social responsibility” is the new buzzword, with both employees
and	the	world	at	large	benefitting,	as	the	quotes	below	show.

Don’t be foolish with the money you’ve made. No big cars. Second, remember
who	you	are.	Stay	humble	and	be	generous.	It’s	the	right	thing	to	do,	and	it	feels
good.

One	of	the	deep	secrets	of	life	is	that	all	that	is	really	worth	doing	is	what	we	do
