What To Expect
Your first visit consists of an
evaluation which involves a review
of your symptom history with your
therapist and a physical exam.
Although the items tested during
the examination may vary based
on the symptoms you present with,
they usually include an assessment
of: neck range of motion; limb
strength and coordination; balance; eye and eye-head
coordination tests; and items that test for dizziness
provoked by motion and head position. Due to the
nature of the testing, you may want to arrange a
ride for your first visit. Some tests may bring on or
increase your dizziness temporarily.
Your course of treatment will depend on the cause
of your symptoms. In the case of positional vertigo,
treatment may consist of 2-3 visits for a maneuver
to correct the problem. Other conditions may
require exercises to assist with balance, dizziness
provoked by motion, and head-eye coordination.
Depending on the cause and severity, clients
requiring training in these areas may come more
frequently and/or over a longer duration. In these
cases, a home exercise program will be given.
