❑Teaching About Main Idea & Details

In this activity, students read different text in order to have

information gap. So, there will be interactions between other
students.

1. Divide the students into two groups.

First of all, you need to divide the student into two big group,
they are Group A and Group B.

2. Ask students to read the text given.

After each group was made, then ask your students in Group
A to read Text 1, and students in Group B to read Text 2.

Remind students that when they read a paragraph, the

sentences in it are related to one another. (You can see the
text on the students’ textbook )

3. Explain to students that every each paragraph have main idea

and supporting idea.

After students finished reading the text, you can explain to
them that they can find the main idea and supporting idea in

every each paragraph of the text.

Explain that very often the main idea is stated in the first
sentence of a paragraph. However, the main idea can also be

given in the middle or at the end of a paragraph.
