P. 21
The father confesses the deed to Esau, “Your brother came with deceit, and took away your
blessing.”
What happens next, we see where Jacob’s name came from when we see what Esau tells the father:
And he said, “Is it because he is named Jacob that he has twice taken my place? For he took away my
birthright, and now he has taken away my blessing. And he said, have you not kept a blessing for
me?”
Jacob answers him by saying, “But I have made him your master, and have given him all his brothers
for servants; I have made him strong with grain and wine: what then am I to do for you, my son?”
In vs. 41, Esau starts making plans to off his no good brother:-
So Esau was full of hate for Jacob because of his father's blessing; and he said in his heart, “The days
of weeping for my father are near; then I will put my brother Jacob to death.”
The bible says that when the roots of bitterness establish themselves, sin bears a child, and we get to
name it death!
In Genesis 4, we see another angry dude planning the same dastardly deed Esau planned to commit.
Cain offered his gift and God denied it. The next verse we see God cautioning Cain against being
upset about this affair:-
Vs. 7 “If you do well, will you not have honour? And if you do wrong, sin is waiting at the door,
desiring to have you, but do not let it be your master.”
