Working security
Things worth knowing about your PPE (personal protective equipment) against falling
Every year there are approx. 7,000 falling accidents in Germany, often
with fatal consequences.
If the labour laws are not complied with, then significant fines can be
levied. In the event of an accident, criminal law is applied, meaning
that, under certain circumstances,
terms of imprisonment of up to 5 years can be handed down. For this
reason, we urgently recommend that PPE is used when working at
high levels.
The length of time PPE against falling is used for depends on:
• Conditions of use
• Natural ageing, affected by
UV radiation and other environmental influences
The BGR 198 therefore designates the following term of use (discard
criteria):
Ropes and connectors 4 – 6 years
Belts 6 – 8 years
Fall arresters with a steel rope –
The date of first use needs to be entered in the enclosed identification
and warranty certificate (user manual). After a fall, all parts of a fall
arrester immediately need to be isolated and replaced.
Storage
Under no circumstances must your PPE be exposed to acids, alkalis,
Professional inspection detergents, oils, flying sparks or other aggressive influences. Optimum
After initial use, all parts of the PPE should be inspected and approved storage is dry, protected from light and at room temperature. We
by an expert on a regular basis, but at least once a year (see BGG recommend our carrying and storage case for this purpose

frequently, have been exposed to negative influences or if there is any
doubt about their safety. Fall arresters using a steel rope also need to
be inspected every 5 years by the manufacturer (for equipment made
by other manufacturers, please pay attention to the review period they
specify). We would be glad to carry out this manufacturer-independent
inspection for you in person.
