LOCATION
Dora is based on a railway carriage built in1897 for
the South East and Chatham Railway. In 1919 the
carriage was refurbished as a Pullman Parlour Car
and named Dora.
In 1929 she left service and was moved to Selsey as a
bathing chalet or holiday home.
Now she still sits, enlarged by an extension, at the
seaward end of Park Lane just 40metres from the
beach. There is one house between her and the sea
and there is a glimpse of the sea from the terrace and
kitchen / dining area.
Selsey is at the southern tip of the Manhood
Peninsula, 9 miles south of Chichester. East Beach is
almost a village on the outskirts of Selsey. To the
north, up the beach, is Pagham Harbour Nature
reserve. To the south, down the promenade, are the
Lifeboat Station, the pub and Selsey Bill. Nearby is
the playground, the village pond, and the local shops.
