For those who are not aware of the community service that is provided by Katie Rose Cottage Hospice,
Carol Raye (Hospice Chair) explains...
Our charity, established in November 2016 to open a new Hospice for the Sunshine Coast now has 280+ volunteers working across the organisation either in the Hospice, Gardening Team, Admin support or at our Op Shop operations, truly a remarkable result, in a short time, for a newly established charity.
You may have heard that Katie Rose Cottage Hospice, a fully Accredited Hospice, although operating a Day Hospice Service since late 2017, commenced 24/7 operations in August 2018 just three years ago and at the time of writing this I can advise we have cared for over 150 guests, who have passed away and who have, along with their families, been supported on their ‘end of life’ journey.
We are grateful to many substantial donors, community groups and individuals who have supported us and to those who choose to raise money for the Hospice through their own various activities and support. We value and respect all our donors and supporters and we are humbled by the enormous support offered to us by the team from The Roadrunner Car Club.
We are a Registered Charity [CH2898] and registered with the ACNC as a Public Benevolent Institution and hold DGR [Deductable Gift Recipient] status that enables a donor to receive a Tax Deductable Receipt.
We know it is important that quality specialist ‘end of life’ care should be available in the community when and where we need it... that is why we offer such a unique ‘home away from home’ environment to our guests and their families. To those who pass away at our Hospice and their loved ones, our Nursing Care team and volunteer support staff become friends, towers of strength and shoulders to cry on. Thanks to the support of sponsors, we can be sure the Hospice will be there when it is most needed.
We can only continue to offer this expert care with support from our community. The August Car Show is an opportunity for you to consider supporting us, via the Roadrunner Car Club, ensuring we can help people live their last days with respect and dignity. Our major cost is the provision of nursing care, that being salaries for our dedicated and professional registered nurses. Our nursing care team covers three eight hour shifts across the day [21 shifts per week] – this is our ‘core’ business, caring for those facing a life limiting illness, hospice care in our community that is unique!
May I take this opportunity to thank members for supporting your community hospice, your generosity will make a real difference to the lives of those in our community facing a terminal illness.
