RJ found his speed early in the Indy ruts and surprised many by qualifying inside the top 5.
Hampshire was scheduled to race 250 Heat 2. When the race began, RJ came out firing and
nearly missed out on the holeshot. With his teammate right behind him, the first lap was chaotic but Hampshire was able to come around the first lap in 4th. RJ made a mistake in the whoops and hit the dirt very hard. He got back up and did everything he could to get back into qualifying position but missed out by half of a wheel. He would go to the LCQ. When the last chance qualifier began, RJ grabbed an easy holeshot and cruised to his first LCQ win. RJ brushed the dirt off and was ready to ride a mistake free Main Event. When the Main started, RJ got off to a great jumped and nearly got the holeshot but was pushed wide. He came around the first lap in 10th and started moving forward. By lap 7, he had made some aggressive passes and found himself in 8th. He kept charging hard and ended up 6th by the time the checkers flew. Hampshire’s 6th place in Indy matched his best finish of the season so far. RJ should be able to keep the ball rolling and continue to put in good finishes for the rest of the season.
