carson Mumford rolled into the Pala california classic ready to bring home some championships
in his first big national of the year. The Geico rider signed up for Mini Sr. 2 (12-14), Mini Sr. Open (9-14), and Supermini’s 1&2. It was his first national with the Geico team and the fans were waiting to see if he could put that 150 four stroke on the top of the box. Mumford got the weekend going with solid outings in the Supermini classes. Being slightly younger than many of the riders in the classes, it was impressive to see him go out and grab a fifth overall in Supermini 1 and then a fourth in Supermini 2. In each class he managed to crack the top three in one of the three motos that were impressive feats within themselves. But his main classes were yet to come and they would result in dominating and clutch performances.
In the Mini Sr. Open (9-14) class, Mumford enjoyed himself a fine trio of motos going 2-1-1 on his way to winning the championship. His lone second place finish came in a wild race. Ty Masterpool got out to the early lead and began to distance himself from a three-way battle between Mumford, Max Miller, and Maximus Vohland. The three riders duked it out for the majority of the race until Miller and Vohland ran into their problems with two to go giving Mumford a secured second place position.
