Matt Bisceglia entered Toronto looking to have a much better finish than he did a week ago in Daytona that was a dismal 19th place. He is still racing his way back into shape after being sidelined with injury for a better part of the offseason. He would come away of qualifying practice with the 12th fastest time
and was ready to improve on that time in the heat races.
Bisceglia who has historically been a good starter in his career suffered a bad one to kick off his heat race. He started outside of the top 10 but quickly began making some moves. He got up to 8th place early and would make a few more moves and get into 6th place near the end of the race. But Shane McElrath would come knocking and take 6th away sending Biscgelia back to 7th but it would still be good enough to send him straight through to the main event.
The start of the main event saw many of the top riders in the championship go down but Bisceglia was able to cut in and sneak his way right into the lead! The new MAD Racing Suzuki rider found himself in unfamiliar territory but he would lead the field around to the green flag.
He soon felt the pressure from a pair of Troy Lee KTM’s in Shane McErath and top qualifier Justin Hill. Bisceglia tried putting up a fight but bobbled while doing so allowing the two KTM’s and Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Tyler Bowers to go by. So it was first to fourth for the Texas rider and he looked to recoup and stop the bleeding. But this crazy race was only about to get crazier. Rookie Benny Bloss would make his way by Bisceglia momentarily but he was able to pass him back and also gain another position due to McElrath suffering a flat rear tire. Just as fast as Bisceglia fell to 5th, he found himself back in 3rd. Then soon after Bisceglia got back into 3rd, Bowers would run into problems and fall back some positions sending Bisceglia back into 2nd place! But that is when Jeremy Martin came up on him around the halfway point and takes away his second place spot. So Bisceglia now found himself in 3rd place where he would comfortable stay for the remainder of the race. It was a whirlwind of a main event for Bisceglia tying his career best finish. This race may have been the shot in the arm he needed to get his season on track. What an impressive ride by Matt Bisceglia.
