Weston Peick entered Toronto looking to get back inside the top 10 as he surprisingly has done so only one time this season. Qualifying practice went well for Peick putting in the 10th fastest time and was on track to get back in the top 10. All he needed was a
few good starts and he would be right in the thick of the fight.
Peick got off to a feisty start in his heat race and took advantage of the first lap intensity getting by Jason Anderson for 3rd as they took the green flag. He would deal with pressure from El Hombre for the first three laps and did a good job holding him off. But at the halfway point Anderson’s pressure would be too much and he would get by Peick for 3rd. Now on the bubble, Peick knew he had to put the hammer down and latch onto Anderson or risk getting passed by the closing Cole Seely. At the end of the race Peick was able to hold of Seely and go straight through to the main event. It was a big break for Peick because it would give him some valuable extra time to prepare for the main.
The main event was a big bowl of chaos for a lot of riders and that included Weston Peick. He would be left with nowhere to go when Justin Bogle went down in the first rhythm lane leaving him nowhere to go. Peick would get held up and shuffled back outside of the top 10. Not the optimal start but he would get to work. By lap 6th he worked all the way up to 7th place. He was putting in an impressive ride even though Canard was able to work around him halfway through the race. Now in 8th, Peick looked to ride to the finish and not go down like he has so often this year. And he would do just that as he rode the rest of the race to a solid 8th place. It was a season best for Peick who was finally able to string together a night without crashes. A big confidence boost for Peick and he will carry that into the races next weekend in Detroit.
