KATIE BENSON
Katie Benson has been right on the verge of a breakthrough in the Girls classes, most notably scoring a fourth place overall in the Girls (11-16) class last year at the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Moto- cross Championship. Although she didn’t make the podium, Benson was bested by Jordan Jarvis, Jazzmyn Canfield, and Tay- ler Allred -- but the fourteen year old was the youngest of the bunch. The Delaware native missed all of the major spring races at the beginning of the season, but she kept her riding skills sharp on the indoor stage instead. She won both Womens classes the east coast Monster Energy Amateur Supercross rounds and scored top ten finishes within the heavily com- petitive Supermini Dominator division as well. From one end of the spectrum to the other, Benson added a GNCC podium and victory to her wiresume in the month of April. Recently, the KTM rider showed up at JuniorMotoX and dominated proceed- ings in the Women’s classes, winning both of them with relative ease.
CARSON
MUMFORD
Carson Mumford bounced back after
a rough week at Freestone but he managed to return to winning ways at the 2018 FMF California Classic. The AMSOIL Factory Connection backed Honda rider has showed intermittent speed in the B class throughout the introductory months to the new racing season, but he hasn’t quite been able to reestablish the electrifying pace he showed in the mini ranks. Nonetheless, Mumford was on fire in his home state of California as he tore up the various B classes that he entered, winning a total of four motos and finishing on the podium in every individual race barring two. The Team Dunlop alum landed on top of the overall podium in both 250
B Limited and 450 B Limited due to an exceptional rate of consistency in both classes. He would have done the same in 250 B, but a sixth place finish in the opening moto damaged his eventual overall result and he had to settle for second position. Mumford has fought the injury bug in recent years and it seems that he’s finally getting back to his full potential -- a scary thought for the rest of the competition in 2018.
