DEREK DRAKE
Following an extremely vicious crash at the JS7 Freestone Spring Championship after dominating the opening moto in the A class, Derek Drake made his return to racing at the 2018 FMF California Classic. The Orange Brigade backed KTM rider was irregularly inconsistent at Pala Raceway during the course of the 2018 Cal Classic, but he still managed to put his best foot forward in the Open Pro division. Drake finished the weekend with 2-1-2 moto finishes in order to take the title, and he consistently finished within the top five in the other two pro classes. His exceptional speed and ability to find
a rhythm from the front of the field is practically unmatched in all of amateur competition and he’ll surely be looking to utilize that skillset as the year presses on. If Drake is able to get out front at any of the future races in 2018, it’s a warning to his competition that they need to get going quick or he’s going to be the one standing on the top step of the podium after the checkered flag has flown.
