 Hurricane Season is Here
We are a month into Hurricane Season, and the National Hurricane Center has forecast a greater than average number of named storms this year.
There has already been a tropical storm and several notable weather systems in the Gulf of Mexico that have made landfall along the Louisiana coast. We haven’t been threatened by a major storm, as yet, but need to look at Tropical Storm Cindy as a “practice run” for potential major storms.
Given these events, it’s time to do some preliminary storm planning. The rst step is to remain aware of what local authorities are recommending and what the local weathercasters are predicting.
Then it’s a good idea to check up on your stock of food, drinking water, medications, ashlight batteries, a battery or crank-powered radio, and fuel - for both your cars and any portable generators you may have. These items are much more readily available now, before a storm is threatening, than after the fact.
If you operate a portable generator, be conscious of the lethal potential of exhaust gases. Always run your generator outside with the exhaust directed away from any windows or doors.
Now would also be a good time to secure or store any patio furniture, lawn equipment, gardening tools, bicycles and toys that could become projectiles in a severe wind storm.
These are just good practices to be ready to respond more quickly if something bigger comes along later this season. If you’ve given some thought to what you are going to do ahead of time, you are far more likely to have a good outcome, at least in terms of things under your control

LSU won the SEC West, the SEC Regular Season Championship, the SEC Tournament, the Baton Rouge Regional, the Baton Rouge Super Regional, advanced to Omaha and earned a spot in the nal game by twice besting the
