“Great Gray called a Council of all the horses of the ancient world to discuss the unicorn problem. He was aware that they had never been very successful at getting the unicorns to stop their behavior, particularly once they were grown. Therefore, he proposed a radical solution. They would banish all the unicorns to an island in the ocean, just off the coast of where most of the horses lived.
The island was uninhabited but there was plenty of food and water. The unicorns could live out their lives in comfort without the rest of the horses having to put up with their gossiping, manipulation and hurtful behavior.
All of the horses agreed that this was a very tough plan. They knew that many had family members who were now unicorns and that they would never get to see their relatives again.
Great Gray said that he understood how difficult this would be because he too would lose a daughter. However, there was no other choice unless the horses wanted to continue living with the unicorns and their hurtful ways.
The Council’s decision was to have all the unicorns move to the island within the week. But if any unicorn living on the island changed their behavior, they could return to the mainland. By the end of the week, all of the unicorns had swum to the island.
