Page 11 - Ugly Unicorn
P. 11

The ancient horses remarked how nice it was to have a society where no one tried to be ugly to another. Now, no one gossiped or tried to manipulate others. When someone made a mistake, others helped them learn how to correct their mistake rather than make fun of them.”
The unicorns lived on ‘Unicorn Island’ for many many years. The ancient horses could not imagine what it was like on the island, an island where everyone gossiped, where everyone was hurtful and ugly to others. The leader of the ancient horses was often heard to say that the island itself must hate to hear all those hurtful things being said.
Years went by and no new unicorns appeared from among the ancient horses. Every now and then a hornless animal would swim from the island to the mainland. A unicorn who had given up his hateful ways was a horse once again. He was welcomed back into the herd as if he had never been gone.
It was said that every evening Great Gray would walk the beach looking towards the island, hoping that one day his daughter would swim home to him.
“Then came the great tragedy,” said the leader of the wild horses.
I was so caught up in the story I shouted, “What happened, what happened!”
