Page 14 - Mousy Mouse Has a Bad Day
P. 14
Mousy had been watching all day long and was puzzled.
I heard her say to herself, “Why do we go for the cheese when the cat is close to the kitchen and alert? We have to run so fast and scramble so hard that the cat is bound to hear us and come after us.”
Mousy thought about this and came up with an idea. Like all of the mice at the farm, Mousy was familiar with the habits of Precious. She knew when he ate, slept and went out partying. The more she thought about it, the more she thought she had figured out how to win the Cheese Game.
Mousy let the other mice take their turn with the game but none were able to get a piece of cheese even close to the size of the piece Herman had gotten on the first trip of the day.
Then Mousy saw Precious leave the kitchen. But instead of going into the room where the farm people kept their talking picture box or the other regular rooms, he went into the people’s sleeping room.
At this point, Mousy said, “My turn!” and went down the loft ladder. All the others watched as Mousy went out of the barn.
